End-to-End FuSa Engineering for Automotive Lighting Systems
Product: Automotive Exterior Lighting Systems – Functional Safety Engineering
Client Challenge:
The project focuses on developing automotive exterior lighting systems in compliance with ISO 26262. The objective is to coordinate Functional Safety activities across the complete safety lifecycle, ensuring consistency between system, hardware, and software development while delivering compliant safety work products and supporting platform-level Functional Safety strategy.
RSB Solution:
- Coordinated Functional Safety activities throughout the ISO 26262 safety lifecycle for automotive exterior lighting products.
- Planned, developed, reviewed, and maintained Functional Safety work products, including Safety Plans, Functional Safety Concepts (FSC), Technical Safety Concepts (TSC), Safety Goals, and Safety Requirements (TSR, HSR, SSR).
- Managed end-to-end traceability between Safety Goals, Functional and Technical Safety Requirements, Hardware and Software Safety Requirements, safety mechanisms, verification evidence, and Safety Case argumentation.
- Coordinated DFMEA activities across System, Hardware, and Software domains, including failure mode analysis, fault reaction assessment, and alignment of SYS FMEA with Functional Safety activities.
- Reviewed diagnostic concepts, safety mechanisms, HW/SW interfaces, assumptions, and confirmation measures to ensure compliance with ISO 26262.
- Supported Safety Case development and release strategy by ensuring consistency of safety analyses, verification evidence, and supporting work products.
- Contributed to Functional Safety process improvements, platform reuse strategy, and continuous enhancement of development practices using Medini Analyze, IQRM, and requirements traceability management.
Delivered Results:
The project delivered a complete set of ISO 26262 Functional Safety work products for automotive lighting systems, including the successful release of a full Safety Case supported by comprehensive safety argumentation, traceability, verification evidence, and aligned FSC, TSC, TSR, HSR, and SSR work products. Additional results included coordinated DFMEA activities across SYS/HW/SW, validated diagnostic concepts and fault reactions, improved traceability management, and strengthened platform-level Functional Safety processes.
Client Value:
The client gained a robust and fully traceable Functional Safety framework that improved ISO 26262 compliance, strengthened cross-domain consistency between system, hardware, and software development, reduced Functional Safety risks, and enabled efficient Safety Case preparation and platform reuse across multiple automotive lighting programs.
