Preparing an Automotive Organization for UNECE R156 Certification

Client Challenge:
The project focused on establishing and maturing a Software Update Management System (SUMS) in accordance with UNECE R156 requirements. The objective was to achieve audit readiness, ensure regulatory compliance, develop the required governance processes, and successfully support certification and homologation activities.
RSB Solution:
- Provided regulatory and process consulting related to UNECE R155 and R156 compliance.
- Performed Threat Analysis and Risk Assessment (TARA) activities and supported cybersecurity and software update governance processes.
- Developed, reviewed, and finalized SUMS procedures, incorporating feedback from certification and homologation bodies.
- Defined and implemented processes for software version management, secure software distribution, update execution, and RXSWIN management.
- Created compliance templates, process documentation, reporting structures, and audit evidence mappings.
- Conducted gap analyses, compliance assessments, and audit readiness reviews against regulatory requirements.
- Supported preparation and execution of pre-audits, certification audits, and corrective action plans.
- Facilitated stakeholder workshops, audit presentations, and regulatory discussions while coordinating closure of open compliance topics.
Delivered Results:
The project delivered a complete SUMS framework including governance procedures, version management processes, software update workflows, RXSWIN management practices, audit evidence documentation, compliance matrices, risk assessments, and audit-ready work products. Additional outcomes included successful closure of identified compliance gaps, improved process maturity, and readiness for certification and homologation activities.
